Why Cognitive Kali?

 We believe training in Cognitive Kali can help many people. From those with all types of mild cognitive impairment, ranging from early onset Alzheimers, to those with traumatic brain injuries or post traumatic stress disorder. Healing the brain belongs to the amazing people in the medical community. Preparing the brain, or working the brain out, to prevent some disorders manifesting or aid in the recovery of issues originating in the brain belongs to a larger community of movement specialists, physical therapists and academic professors. Those who wish to push boundaries and search for non traditional ways to keep our brains in shape are those who we follow, listen to and learn from.

The hypothesis behind The Cognitive Kali Program is that;

"Progressively complex movement impacts cognitive functions greater than and in more ways than well learned repeated movement"

Disorders of, or in the brain are on the rise and much of the research, that is well funded and drives the movement to cure some of them, are closely related to pharmaceuticals. There is a smaller, growing drive to look at how lifestyle changes or choices can have great impacts on these disorders. How we eat, how we sleep and how we move are all integral to our general health and it is becoming more and more apparent that they are integral to our brain health specifically.

We believe that how we have moved throughout the history of 'humans' is directly related to why we are an advanced species. That how we have had to move as early humans, to survive direct and perceived threats has created the means for us to learn and adapt much quicker when a risk is presented, which is why this program is based upon a martial art. We believe that the very low risk involved with swinging sticks is enough to engage the brain to a state where cognitive functions, specifically executive functions are more susceptible to increases in proficiency.
